Watch your wallet

Hidden costs most families miss

The extras that quietly add hundreds to the final bill.

Seat selection

EasyJet seat fees are notoriously punchy, £8 to £30 per seat per flight. Sit apart and risk being split, or pay £100+ for a family of four.

Hold bags on lite fares

EasyJet lite packages can charge £40 to £60 per bag each way. Jet2 includes 22kg as standard.

In resort transfers

Both include shared transfers on most packages but private upgrades cost £80 to £150.

Late drop offs and early arrivals

If your flight lands at 3am or leaves at 5am, factor in extra hotel nights or sleep deprived car hire days.

Airport parking and lounge upgrades

Both upsell. Book direct with a parking comparison site instead.

Our verdict

What we would actually book

If you are a price first family who reads every line of the booking page and is happy to pay for seats and bags separately, EasyJet Holidays often comes out cheapest, sometimes significantly so.

If you want fewer surprises, the bags and seats included, daylight flights and a real human if something goes wrong, Jet2 is the cleaner option and usually only £50 to £150 more once you add everything in.

The trap most families fall into is comparing EasyJet's headline against Jet2's all in and assuming EasyJet is cheaper. It is not, until you add the extras. We do that maths for you in the savings report.

Frequently asked

Is Jet2 or EasyJet cheaper for families?

EasyJet Holidays usually wins the headline price by £50 to £200 on the same hotel. Jet2 often catches up once you add seats, bags and transfers, because more is included by default.

Which has the better baggage allowance?

Jet2 includes 22kg hold luggage on every package as standard. EasyJet Holidays includes 23kg on most packages but charges separately on lite fares, so always read the small print.

Which has better flight times for families?

Jet2 protects family friendly daytime slots, particularly out of Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Stansted. EasyJet schedules can be earlier or later, especially on cheaper weeks.

What about customer service?

Jet2 wins almost every UK customer survey including Which? recommended provider. EasyJet Holidays has improved but still trails on phone support and at the airport when things go wrong.
