Family holidays

All-inclusive family holidays: which are actually worth it?

All-inclusive can be brilliant value or a quiet rip-off. Here is when the maths works for families, and the resorts we keep recommending.

When all-inclusive is genuinely cheaper

  • Long-haul destinations where eating out costs UK prices (Caribbean, Mexico, Maldives)
  • Resorts away from busy towns where you would struggle to walk to restaurants
  • Families with teenagers who eat a lot

When it almost never makes sense

  • Trips to walkable European cities with cheap local eating (Portugal, Greece, Albania)
  • Families with very young children who eat tiny amounts
  • Anyone wanting to explore beyond the resort during the day

Resorts that actually deliver

  • Holiday Village Mallorca: brilliant kids' clubs and a decent buffet
  • Jet2 Indulgent Escapes range: solid quality even at the entry price point
  • TUI Sensatori: more grown-up feel but still very kid-friendly

What to check before you book

Always ask what counts as included. Some resorts charge extra for premium drinks, à la carte restaurants, ice cream and even bottled water on the beach. Read the small print or, better, send the package to us and we will check it for you.
